Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has said that the industry ministry is working to produce its own brand of cars in Bangladesh. He said the car would be manufactured by Pragati Industries Limited, a state-owned company with technical assistance from the Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan. He made the remarks during a meeting with the Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh, Naoki Ito, at the Ministry of Industries on Monday. Present at the meeting were the Additional Secretary of the Ministry Begum Parag and officials from the Ministry and the Embassy of Japan.
After the meeting, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun told Kaler Kanth that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had promised to make her own car brand. The Ministry of Industries is making preparations to this end. If it is possible to make a car of the own brand, the people of the country will have the opportunity to use it at a lower price.
As for car manufacturing preparations, he said, preparations have started to make cars of its own brand.
During the meeting, the Minister of Industries said that the Automotive Industry Development Policy-2020 will be finalized soon to produce its own brand of cars. In light of this policy, the opportunity to provide technical assistance to Japan in the automotive industry will be opened.
The meeting discussed Japanese investment in the industrial sector of Bangladesh. Japan’s technical assistance in manufacturing its own car brand in Bangladesh, the formulation of the National Industrial Policy-2021 and the creation of an industrial database, the modernization of the motorcycle industry and other topics of interest were discussed. mutual.
Referring to Japan’s long-standing technical assistance in fertilizer factories, the Minister of Industries drew the attention of the Japanese Ambassador to invest in the modernization of state-owned sugar mills, the establishment of agriculture-based industries, agricultural products and processing of food, light engineering development and supplier development for small and medium industries.
The Japanese ambassador said that the forward-looking measures taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to tackle the Corona epidemic have created a positive investment climate in Bangladesh. Other automakers, including Japan’s Mitsubishi, are keen to increase investment in Bangladesh. She said Japan would provide technical assistance in the production of Bangladesh’s own car brand, adding that it would seriously consider the issue of modernizing sugar mills.
The Japanese ambassador said that the Japan Economic Zone in Araihazar in Narayanganj district is at the top of Asia in terms of quality.
By the way, in 2009 the then Minister of Industries Dilip Barua announced the production of sedans during his tenure. However, it was not implemented. In the next term, the Minister of Industries, Amir Hossain Amu, also did not take any steps to produce his own brand of cars in Bangladesh.
