US Under Secretary of State Stephen E. Bigan, who is visiting Dhaka, said that not only the United States but also other countries should play an important role in the repatriation of the Rohingya. He said so at a joint press conference in the capital on Thursday.

Earlier, in response to a question, the foreign minister said. AK Abdul Momen said, “The US Under Secretary of State has come to Bangladesh because he values Bangladesh as an independent country and not through the eyes of Delhi.”

The strong role of world powers like the United States is needed to force Myanmar to repatriate the Rohingya. The role of the United States in this case is not as strong as the position of countries like China, India or Russia. Visiting Dhaka Undersecretary of State Stephen E. Bigan spoke emphatically about this.

“It is a well-known fact that the United States is playing a major role in the Rohingya problem,” Bigan said. The United States is also working with Myanmar to repatriate the Rohingya. At the same time, I would like to say that a regional and global role is needed to get the Rohingya back. All countries must work together in this regard. Of course, this is not the sole responsibility of Bangladesh.

AK Abdul Momen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and Bangladesh, also clarified how much the United States sees Bangladesh, or whether Bangladesh is being considered according to the wishes of any other country.

The US Under Secretary of State said: “I agree with the Bangladesh Foreign Minister. Geographically, Bangladesh is an attractive partner for the United States. Economic growth has been sustained here for a long time. Interesting aspects of the business are the large class of consumers in Bangladesh, skilled workers and the Bay of Bengal. There are many more things like this that the United States is interested in Bangladesh.

It was reported at the press conference that due to the Covid-19 situation, the US embassy in Dhaka is being run with limited manpower and the student visa process is currently closed. The issue of bringing Bangabandhu’s killer Rashed Chowdhury back to Bangladesh will also be reviewed, the joint press conference reported.
