On the one hand, onions are not sold on the market, on the other hand, India has allowed the export of 2,000 tons of onions glued on the border with Bangladesh. As a result, the price of onion has started to fall in the market in one day. Reduced from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per kg. Meanwhile, there is almost no buyer in the onion market hoping for further price reduction.
Visiting the capital’s Karwan Bazaar on Saturday afternoon, it was seen that wholesalers were sitting in stores, some were sitting, some were lazily sleeping.
“There are no buyers,” Farooq, an onion wholesaler, told NTV Online. So he’s spending leisure time. ‘ He said that the price of onion has started to fall due to lack of buyers. Now it has been reduced from 10 to 20 rupees per kg according to the standard.
AKM Azad, a wholesaler next door, sleeps in the onion shop. He said: ‘National onion of good quality is sold at 75 Tk per kg in the wholesale market. It is sold on the retail market for Rs 60.
Buyers say that since prices are no longer rising, there is no need to store more onions.
However, a buyer named Fazlul Karim said that he bought seven kg of onion on the first day of the price increase. As a result, it is no longer necessary.
Abdul Hamid, an onion retailer in Karwan Bazar, slept in his shop. When asked, another vendor named Nazmul on the side said, “There is no buyer, so Hamid Bhai is sleeping.” Nazmul was also sitting on a sack of onion.
A buyer named Asadul Islam bought three kg of onion. He said: ‘I usually buy three to five kg onions. When the caravan reached the market, they bought more. Because there is no opportunity to come here regularly. Today I bought an onion for 60 rupees. ‘
Asadul bought onions from Chhabur Hossain. Chhabur said: ‘I have been selling 15 kg of onions all day. Sales have fallen dramatically since yesterday. However, on other occasions at least one sack of onion is sold. It seems that the price will go down even more.
A vendor named Naim was selling onions alongside Chhabur. He said: ‘Business is not going well. In general, a very bad situation since that crown arrived. You can’t save a penny from what I earn. Just eating is a benefit. ‘
Kamal Hossain was buying curry. At that time he said: ‘I bought two kg of onion that day. It is not over yet. And since the price does not go up, there is nothing to save. I will buy it again later.
At the beginning of September 14, India stopped onion exports to Bangladesh. As a result, the onion market became uncontrollable from that day on. The domestic onion price doubled to 110 rupees. People buy extra onions and store them out of fear of a higher price hike. Faced with this situation, traders from different parts of the country took the initiative to import onions from different countries of the world. The onions were imported from Myanmar on Friday after almost three months. A Myanmar trawler arrives at the Teknaf land port in Cox’s Bazar with 20 tons of onions.
Meanwhile, the onion market has been in crisis since last Thursday. As a result, the price of onion is decreasing in the wholesale market. On Thursday and Friday, the onion price dropped to Tk 6 per kg in two phases. However, faced with this situation, news comes that before the ban, India had given permission to export 25,000 tons of onions to Bangladesh. This further reduced the price of domestic and imported onions.
