Foreign Minister. AK Abdul Momen has said that the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is “very sorry” for not informing Bangladesh before banning onion exports.

Bangladesh expects positive results soon from Dhaka’s call to lift India’s ban on onion exports.
Previously, Bangladesh had expressed “deep concern” to India about the sudden halt in onion exports. In this way, Dhaka also thinks that the discussions that took place in October last year and January this year have lost their importance.
The Foreign Ministry wrote to the High Commission in Dhaka on September 15: “The latest surprise announcement by the Government of India undermines discussions and understandings between the two friendly countries in 2019 and 2020 on this issue.”
Bangladesh also raised the issue at a meeting between the trade secretaries of the two countries on January 15-16 this year and during a VVIP visit to India in October last year.
During a visit to India in October last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in Hindi (according to Indian media): “I hope you will let us know before you stop exporting onions.” I had to tell my chef to give me food cooked without onion. I would ask India to kindly inform us in advance of such a measure. Above all, we are neighbors.
According to sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the High Commission of India, in addition to conveying the message of Bangladesh to their respective authorities, has asked them to take the necessary measures to resume onion exports to Bangladesh, taking into account the excellent relations of friendship and understanding between the two countries.
