In the election of the municipality of Comilla Chandina, there was a confrontation between the supporters of two candidates for councilors near the electoral college. One person was stabbed and wounded with a sharp weapon.
The incident took place near the voting station of the Harang government primary school in the municipality’s No. 3 district around 9 am on Saturday. Three more people were injured in the confrontation.
The name of the seriously injured person is Mohsin. He is a resident of the same area. He is a supporter of councilman candidate Billal Hossain.
The brother of councilman candidate Billal Hossain, Ibrahim Khalil, alleged that supporters of Nazmul Hasan, the councilor candidate for the district’s camel bird symbol, launched a surprise attack on supporters of the Punjabi symbol, Billal Hossain.
At that time, one of his supporters named Mohsin was attacked and wounded. His condition is critical.
First they took him to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, Mohsin was transferred to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Three more people were injured in the incident.
Councilor candidate Nazmul Hasan could not be reached for comment.
Chandina Police Station OC Shamsuddin Mohammad Ilias said they had received reports of clashes between supporters of the neighborhood council candidate Billal Hossain of the Punjabi symbol and Nazmul Hasan of the camel bird symbol. This is being investigated.
It is worth mentioning that the total population of the municipality of Chandina is 55,900. 31,748 voters. Of these, 15,008 are male voters and 18,160 are female voters. Voting has been carried out in different centers since this morning.
Five candidates compete for the position of mayor in the elections. They are: Bangladesh Awami League nominated boat symbol candidate, Upazila Awami League member, Md. Shawkat Hossain Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Nationalist Party nominated rice sheaf symbol candidate to BNP municipal secretary general of Chandina and former mayor Shah Mohammad. Alamgir Khan, the LDP Liberal Democratic Party nominated the umbrella symbol candidate Jamshed Ahmed Zaki, Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominated the fan symbol candidate Kazi Rezaul Karim and the only independent candidate Jag symbol prominent businessman from Chandina Bazar Haji Md. Shamim Hossain.
In these elections, 40 candidates compete for the position of councilor in 9 general districts and seven candidates compete for the position of councilor in three reserved seats.
