Hilsa has been sold at a wholesale price of Tk 22,000 on the Barisal Mokams wholesale market. Based on this price, the price of hilsa per kg has fallen from Rs 500 to Rs 500. This was Hilsa’s lowest market price in recent years.

This situation is known to have arisen from the arrival of huge hilsa into the sea and the lack of buyers in the local market and the cessation of hilsa smuggling in India. Traders fear that if the current situation continues, the price of hilsa in Barisal will continue to decline.

On the spot, when visiting Port Road Hilsa Mokam in the city, it can be seen that Hilsa’s retail price of one kg in size sells for Rs. The day before, Pratiman was sold between 30 and 36 thousand rupees. The price of five to eight hundred grams is 16 lakhs and the retail price is 450 rupees per kg. The previous day’s price was Rs 600-750 per kg. Pratiman Jatka (three to four hundred grams) 10,000 rupees and selling price 250 rupees per kg. A few days ago it was sold for 14 lakhs an ounce.

Owner of Talukdar Enterprise, Port Road grocer. Kabir Hossain said: “During the last three or four days, the import of hilsa marina has been high. Especially last Friday the importation was comparatively higher. So it has been sold at the price of water.

The fishermen said that the import of hilsa has increased several times. Last Friday, more than three thousand manas of hilsa were imported into Mokam. What is the highest of the current season. Because of this, the price of hilsa has also dropped a lot. Although the import of hilsa has increased, the traders are not smiling. Because although hilsa imports are high, the number of buyers is less. A situation where there is no possibility of freezing. Because there is no demand for frozen fish in Bangladesh.

Barisal (Hilsa) District Fisheries Officer Bimal Chandra Das said: “Now the full Hilsa season is underway. Among them, Hilsa was not caught at sea from May 20 to July 23. Despite the lifting of the ban, the fishermen were unable to put to sea for 16-17 days due to hostile weather. Hilsa has grown a lot during this period. Now the whole thread is being caught together. Therefore, the importation of hilsa has increased in places. The price of hilsa marina has also dropped. However, the hilsa river has not yet started to rise. The price of the hilsa river is also high. In a few days the importation of the hilsa river will also increase.
