Police arrested a man for allegedly hacking and wounding Wahida Zaman, an executive officer of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur.
Ghoraghat Police Station OC Aminul Islam told BBC Bangla that law enforcement had arrested a man named Asadul from Hakimpur in Dinajpur.
“The police and the RAB were present at the time of the defendant’s arrest. The defendant is estimated to be between 32 and 35 years old,” Islam said.
Aminul Islam said that the arrested man was identified by viewing CCTV footage.
Earlier in the day, Farhad Hossain, the state’s minister of public administration, said CCTV footage showed two men attacking the UN, who were thought to be young due to their “slight” physique.
UNO Wahida Zaman and her father were beaten to death by two criminals in Ghoraghat upazila, in the northern district of Dinajpur, on Wednesday morning.
Later, Wahida Khanam, who suffered serious head injuries, was transferred to Dhaka by air ambulance.
Last night he underwent brain surgery at the Hospital of the National Institute of Neurosciences.
At the end of the surgery, doctors reported that the right side of Wahida Khanum’s body was numb. Doctors declined to comment on his condition at the time.
