A 40-year-old housewife, mother of two, was allegedly raped in Wazirpur, Barisal. The incident took place in the village of Dostina in Guthia, a union of the Upazila on Monday noon.
The husband of the raped housewife said that when he came home on Monday afternoon, he saw his neighbor Badal Shil rape his wife by throwing her on the terrace of the house. At that moment Badal sensed his presence and escaped. Later, his wife informed him that Badal Shil approached her alone and threatened and raped her.
In this context, the housewife told reporters Tuesday afternoon that Badal Shil, the uncle from the same house, found her alone in the house on Monday afternoon and raped her. Badal Sheel had previously planned to send his wife and children to visit his father-in-law in Jhalakati. He has been on the run since the incident.
Meanwhile, it has been alleged that an influential local group is trying to cover up the matter on behalf of the rapist.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Wazirpur Model Police Station, Ziaul Ahsan, said that police would be dispatched to the scene and necessary legal action would be taken.
