After seven years of marriage, Tareq Hossain Qayyum (26) rushed to a hospital in Dhaka’s Uttara to see his older brother’s son. The newborn died last Tuesday. Five members of the family left for Jhalokati with the body of their brother’s daughter.
On the one hand, mourning the death of his brother’s son, on the other hand, Qayyum expected to see the face of his son born 21 days ago. His wife Jhilmil Akhtar also spoke to Maryam by phone. But she did not see the boy’s face.
Six people, including an ambulance driver, were killed in a three-way collision between a bus, an ambulance and a covered van on the Dhaka-Barisal road in Jayshree village in Barisal’s Uzirpur upazila around 5:15 pm Wednesday. Mourning for the death of five family members in the accident continues in the Baukathi village of Jhalokati Sadar upazila. Locals packed the house after the night after hearing the news of the accident. Relatives from different places also come to console the relatives of the deceased. The air became heavy with their screams.
The deceased have been identified as Arif Hossain (35) from Baukathi village, his mother Kohinoor Begum (65), his younger brother Tarek Hossain Qayyum (26), his sister Shiuli Begum (30) and Qayyum’s brother-in-law, Nazrul Islam (28) and the ambulance driver Md. Alamgir Hossain (38 years old).
According to relatives of the victims, Arif, the son of Sirajul Islam from Baukathi village, worked for a wind washing company in Dhaka. After the marriage, he lived in Dhaka with his wife. Seven years later, their first daughter was born in a hospital in Dhaka’s Uttara. The baby died Tuesday in critical condition. Arif’s wife, Umme Fatema (26), is receiving treatment at the hospital. Arif’s mother, Kohinoor Begum, and her sister, Shiuli Begum, went to Dhaka from Jhalokati to search for the dead newborn’s body. The younger brother Qayyum and his brother-in-law lived in Dhaka. The body was taken by ambulance to Jhalokati on Wednesday. All were killed at the scene in a three-way collision between a covered bus and ambulance van on the Dhaka-Barisal highway in the village of Jayshree in Barisal’s Uzirpur upazila in the afternoon.
In the evening, they went to the house in Baukathi village and saw Jhilmil Akhter Maryam, wife of the late Tareq Hossain Qayyum, at her home. A 21 day old newborn on your lap. Her crying didn’t stop. Maria lost her husband and her entire family. Repeatedly looking at the child’s face and tears flow profusely. Lamenting, he says: ‘I couldn’t even see the child’s face. Everything in my life was over. The husband dies after two years of marriage. My son lost his father. I can’t accept this death. ‘
Minni Akhter, sister of the late Nazrul Islam, was in mourning by his side. He said: ‘The brother was coming in an ambulance with everyone from Dhaka to see his sister’s 21-day-old daughter. But the niece was never seen again. Our sister’s husband and brother have died.
Neighbor Sohail Khan said: ‘Relatives go to the place from the village house. It will be morning to bring the body. Most of the members of a family have tragically died in traffic accidents. It is very difficult. We couldn’t hold back our tears when we saw our relatives cry. Such a death is not desirable.
