President. Abdul Hamid stressed the need for direct communications and connections by air and water between the Maldives and Bangladesh to boost trade and investment ties. He made the remarks during a courtesy visit to Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih in Bangabhaban on Thursday evening. Describing tourism as a very promising field for both Bangladesh and the Maldives, the president called on investors and entrepreneurs to work together to tap into the existing potential of the two countries.
After the meeting, President Joynal Abedin’s press secretary briefed the media. The dinner and cultural program were followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the wife of President Rashida Khanam and the First Lady of the Maldives, Fazna Ahmed. In honor of the President of Maldives, who arrived in Dhaka on a three-day visit to participate in the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence and the centenary of the birth of the nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Abdul Hamid was the host of the dinner.
Praising the Maldivian government’s decision to provide free Kavid-19 vaccine to expatriate Bangladeshis in the Maldives, President Hamid said: “Bangladesh is ready to send more skilled manpower to the Maldives in various professions.” Welcoming the initiative to select Bangladesh as the field of medical and technological education for Maldivian students, the President said that “Bangladesh has the potential to bring educational opportunities to more students.” Referring to various memorandums of understanding between Bangladesh and the Maldives on bilateral issues, the president said that the visit of the Maldivian president would be a unique milestone in the development of relations between the two countries.
President Abdul Hamid called on the Maldives to import international quality Bangladeshi products from Bangladesh, including medicines, ready-made garments (RMG) and ceramics, and said it would benefit both countries.
President Solih agreed to establish air and water connections between Bangladesh and the Maldives, and said it would help expand trade between the two countries in the future.
Solih praised the unprecedented progress made under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in transforming Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041. Subsequently, the Maldivian president signed the Bangabhaban inspector’s book. He enjoyed a 25-minute long cultural program presented by the Shilpakala Academy of Bangladesh at the Durbar Hall in Bangabhaban.
