Oman welcomes Bahrain’s decision to normalize relations with Israel. Omani state media reported Sunday that the decision would help bring peace to Israel and Palestine. British news agency Reuters reported.

Bahrain, the second largest Gulf state, announced on Friday that it would normalize relations with Israel. The UAE made that decision a month ago. Analysts believe such an initiative could be taken to counter Iran’s regional dominance.

The Omani government said in a statement that the new strategic route of several Arab countries will pave the way for peace by ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. And making East Jerusalem your capital will pave the way for the formation of an independent Palestinian state.

Following the Israeli-Emirati agreement on August 13, the Israeli intelligence ministry said that Oman could also normalize relations with them. Oman welcomed the normalization of relations between the UAE and Bahrain with Israel, but did not comment.

In 2016, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Oman and discussed peace initiatives in the Middle East with then-Sultan Qaboos.

Oman has maintained a neutral role in the conflict-ravaged Middle East. The country maintains relations with all regional powers, including the hostile United States and Iran.
