The Allahabad High Court of India has ruled that you cannot change your religion just to get married. The court said this while dismissing a court petition filed by a couple seeking police protection on Friday.

The court said the woman was Muslim and had converted to Hinduism a few months before the marriage.

Judge Mahesh Chandra Tripathi said it was clear that he changed his religion just for the sake of marriage.

Indian news media Hindustan Times At that time, Judge Tripathi mentioned a verdict from 2014. Where the same court declared that conversion for the sole purpose of marriage is not acceptable. The court later dismissed the writ petition, saying there was no scope for interference in article 227 of the Indian Constitution.

In a 2014 ruling, the Allahabad High Court dismissed a petition for a police protection order filed by a married woman who had converted from Hinduism to Islam.

The court then said: “Is it lawful for a Hindu girl to convert to marry a Muslim boy without knowing anything about Islam and without believing in Islam?”

When the answer to that question was negative, the court commented: “A person can convert to Islam if he does so of his own free will.” At the same time, if only he believes in Allah and His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). ‘

In 2014, the Allahabad High Court ruled that conversion alone would not be acceptable for marriage. The court dismissed today’s petition in the context of that case.
