Pyongyang unveiled a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Saturday, marking the 65th anniversary of the ruling North Korean party.
Video footage broadcast by North Korean state-controlled television shows the ICBMT mounted on a 22-wheeler. The North has never shown such a large missile.
This is the first time since 2016 that North Korea has demonstrated an ICBM in a military parade. Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un addressed a large military rally on Saturday.
He warned that if North Korea were threatened, his country would respond with nuclear weapons. However, he did not speak directly about attacking the United States.
Stating that North Korea has developed nuclear weapons in the interest of national defense, Kim Jong-un said that North Korea has no intention of launching an advanced attack against any particular country. Kim praised the ongoing global war against coronavirus. Kim Jong-un claims that no one in North Korea has yet been infected with the coronavirus.
