A mysterious explosion took place at the Baitul Salat Jame mosque in Talla Chamar Bari, below the Fatulla police station in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. Abdullah Al Arefini, deputy deputy director of the Fire and Civil Defense Service, said the explosion was caused by gas.

Thirty-six people, including imams and muezzins, a photojournalist and a district administration employee, were already admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the blast.

A team of firefighters visited the scene after the accident. Abdullah Arefin said at 11:15 pm that an inspection of the scene revealed that there was a gas pipe through the floor of the mosque. With the leakage of the pipe, the gas accumulated inside the mosque. All the windows and doors inside the mosque were closed due to air conditioning. As a result, the emitted gas could not get out.

He said someone could have lit a spark while lighting something like a lamp or electricity before the explosion. That spark caused the explosion. It can also cause a fire in AC and external transformers.

Abdullah Arefin said: “When we first came here, we thought AC had less to do with electrical causes than with explosions.” Subsequently, it is suspected that gas bubbles appeared in the soil water. Then it is seen that many Titas gas lines have passed through the bottom of the mosque. Each of the pipes in the line has multiple leaks. The gas from that leak was always rising in the mosque.

He said that as a result of closing the mosque before prayers and turning on the air conditioning, air conditioning and gas were mixed throughout the room. And the nature of gas is that when an explosion situation is created or when someone is found involved in a fire, it explodes or ignites. According to that source, it exploded due to an explosion. At the same time, ACs explode because AC also contains gas.

The fire service official said: “If we inform the Titas Gas Authority about the idea, they will come here quickly and confirm our idea.” They said the explosion was caused by a gas pipe.
