Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury, an independent MP from Faridpur-4 constituency, has requested advance bail in a case brought by the Electoral Commission (EC) alleging violation of the code of conduct in the upazila elections.

Judge Sheikh Mohammad. Nixon Chowdhury’s attorneys filed the request for bail in a High Court bench that included Judge Zakir Hossain and Judge KM Zahid Sarwar on Sunday.

The bail request will be heard on Tuesday.

Nixon Chowdhury’s request for bail was filed with the court by his attorney Shahdin Malik, a senior Supreme Court attorney. Lawyer M Manzur Alam was with him.

The Election Commission on Thursday brought a case against Nixon Chowdhury, an independent MP, for allegedly violating the code of conduct in the Faridpur Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-elections and intimidating, abusing and threatening government officials. The plaintiff in the case brought to the Charbhadrasan Police Station is the Nawabul Islam District Senior Elections Officer.

Inspector (investigation) Ziarul Islam has been assigned to investigate the case.

The threat of a ‘broken response’ to the deputy commissioner in the Charbhadrasan upazila by-election and Nixon’s abuse of the deputy commissioner (land) of the broken upazila by calling the UN from Charbhadrasan was spread on social media. However, Nixon Chowdhury demanded that the audio-video be “super credited.” He did not abuse anyone.
