Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar for the seventh time on Monday. A meeting with the NDA MLA at Nitish Kumar’s residence in Patna, the capital of Bihar, on Sunday unanimously decided to reappoint him as Chief Minister of Bihar. After that, he went to Raj Bhavan to demand the formation of a government.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main ally of the NDA alliance and the ruling party in the Center, had previously said that Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal-United (JDU) would be the next main minister if he won the election. Political experts say the party has kept that promise with Nitish Kumar in Bihar.

The final results of the assembly elections in Bihar, a populated state bordering West Bengal, were announced last Wednesday. Out of 243 seats, the NDA alliance has gained 125 seats. The BJP only won 64 seats. In addition, Nitish’s team has 43 sites. The two allied parties have won two seats each.

According to sources, the Bengali newspaper Anandabazar in Calcutta has reported that the swearing-in ceremony will take place on Monday. Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Minister of Bihar for the last four out of seven times.

This time, the election was held in three phases in Bihar. The results were announced on November 10. In addition to the 125 seats in the NDA, Congress and its allies have won 110 seats. In Bihar’s 243-seat assembly, at least 112 seats are needed to form a government.

However, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) has lost the title of the largest party in the alliance on a number of issues, including migrant workers, the Crown-era lockdown, and widespread corruption at the local level. Despite winning more seats among the alliance partners so far, this time the party has lagged behind the BJP.

Political experts say Nitish Kumar was under considerable pressure as he lost many seats and increased the number of BJP seats. Part of the BJP also did not agree to reappoint Nitish as Chief Minister. It was speculated that the rule would be handed back to Nitish. Finally, that speculation came to an end.

On March 3, 2000, Nitish became the Prime Minister of Bihar for the first time. But his government collapsed a week after failing to win a majority. He became the Chief Minister for the second time on November 24, 2005 with the support of the BJP. He became the Chief Minister for the third time in 2010.

Nitish Kumar resigned as prime minister after his party, the JD-U, failed miserably in the 2014 elections in Lok Sabha. Jitan Ram Manjhi became the prime minister in his place. Exactly 15 months after his resignation, Nitish became the Chief Minister again in February 2015.

After that, Nitish’s party won by a large margin in alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). On November 20 of that year, he was sworn in as Chief Minister for the fifth time. When the alliance broke up in 2016, he became the Chief Minister for the sixth time with the support of the BJP. This time too, he will become the Chief Minister for the seventh time by forming an alliance with the BJP.
