The government has imposed new restrictions on travel to St. Martin, the country’s only coral-rich island. The Department of the Environment said in a public statement declaring the island as an “ecologically endangered” area that uncontrolled tourism and the lack of awareness, irresponsibility and environmental and anti-environmental behavior of tourists were on the verge of destroy the rare environment and biodiversity of St. Martin.
In order to preserve the island, including restoring the environment and rare biodiversity, the Department has imposed certain restrictions on travel to St. Martin under Section 4 of the Environmental Protection Act of 1995 (as amended in 2010 ).

– You cannot drive mechanical or non-mechanical vehicles, including bicycles, motorcycles, rickshaws, vans on the island beach.
– Plastics or any type of waste cannot be dumped on the island’s beaches, seas and rivers.
– It is not possible to go south after Konapara on the west beach and south after Galachipa on the east beach.
– There are no boat trips around the island.
– You cannot walk on rocks in tidal areas.
– It is not possible to take pictures of sea turtles laying eggs, turning on lights at night and using flashlights.
– No lights or fires, fireworks or lanterns on the beach at night
– No touching the microphone, yelling and loud parties or bar-b-que on the beach
– Speedboats, country boats, trawlers and other boats cannot travel or anchor on Chheradia Island
– Chheradia Island, acquired by the government, cannot be visited for conservation purposes.
– Corals, snails, oysters, sea turtles, birds, starfish, crabs, seaweed, algae, or keya fruits cannot be collected or sold.
– Chips or any other food should not be fed to the birds from the boat.
– Water waste should be avoided as the amount of drinking water on the island is limited
Above all, everyone, including travelers, should refrain from doing anything that is harmful to the environment of the island of St. Martin.
Violation of these prohibitions is a punishable offense, the official statement said.
