The judge of the Dhaka Judicial Magistrates Court, Fairuz Salekin, granted the remand in a hearing on Friday.
Bakhate Mizanur stabbed Neela to death in the Palpara area of Savar on September 20 at night.
Sapphire, daughter of Narayan Roy from the Balirtek area of the Manikganj district, was studying in the tenth class of the Bank Colony Ased School in the Savar municipal area. Her family rents a house in Kazi Mokma Para in the municipality.
After Neela’s murder, she filed a murder case at the Savar model police station accusing her father Mizanu and her parents. They had been on the run since the incident.
On Thursday, the RAB arrested Abdur Rahman (60) and his mother Nazmunnahar Siddique (50) from the Charigram area of Manikganj district. They were later handed over to the Savar model police station.
SI Nimarl Kumar Das, the investigating officer on the case, presented them in a Dhaka court on Friday and requested a seven-day pre-trial detention.
Deputy Prosecutor Hemayet Uddin Khan Hiron heard the request for pretrial detention on behalf of the state.
The request for pretrial detention said that on the day of the incident, Neela and her brother Alok were going to the pharmacy in a rickshaw to get medicine. On the street next to the girls’ school, Mizanur pushed Alok and hit Sapphire with a knife. Sapphire later died when the locals took her to Enam Medical College.
During the hearing, the state’s attorney said Mizanur used to “harass” Neela at different times. When Neela’s family complained to Mizanur’s parents, they did not detain the boy and threatened Neela’s parents to leave the area.
“Mizanur killed Neela at the instigation and persuasion of her parents. It is important to question your custodian to learn the details of the incident.
In opposition to the pre-trial detention, the leaders of the Awami Bar Council and the former General Secretaries of the Dhaka Bar Association, Mizanur Rahman Mamun and Masud Ahmed, appeared for the two defendants.
After the hearing, the judge placed Mizanur in preventive detention for two days and allowed him to be questioned.
