The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has questioned SM Nazmul Haque, the fired chief engineer of the Department of Shipping, who was arrested in Hatena with bribery money and is free on bail.
On Thursday from 12 noon to 4 in the afternoon, the investigating officer of the ACC Deputy Director. Salauddin Nazmul Haque was questioned, ACC director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said.
Previously, the ACC arrested Nazmul with bribery money. On this occasion, the ACC was accused of its participation in corruption in two projects of the Department of Navigation on its behalf.
Regarding the new accusations against him, an ACC official said that there were irregularities and corruption in two projects of the department, namely ‘Stableist of Global Maritime Disaster and Safety System’ and ‘Integrated Maritime Navigation System’.
“The main key was Nazmul Haque, who was arrested with a bribe of Tk 5 lakh in the hands of the ACC. Several others are involved in this irregularity.”
Earlier, in April 2016, the ACC arrested Nazmul Haque at a hotel in the Secondaryha area of the capital with a Tk 5 lakh bribe.
On the same day, the ACC filed a lawsuit against him at the Shahbagh Police Station in the capital. Five months later, Nazmul Haque was released on bail.
Abdul Wadud, the investigating officer and deputy director of the ACC, filed the charge sheet in court on October 16 of the same year.
The case alleges that Nazmul went to Nazmul Haque to approve the design of the receipt for the passenger ship MV Prince of Sohag from Messrs. Syed Shipping Lines and to obtain a letter of no objection to naming the new ship. The interested party informed the ACC about the matter. He was later arrested along with five lakh rupees in bribe payments led by Nasim Anwar, director of the commission’s divisional office in Dhaka.
