National Professor and former Interim Advisor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury’s government no longer exists. He passed away on Tuesday morning (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilahi Raziun).
Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, dean of Dhaka University College of Business Education, a relative of Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, gave this information.
Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam told Prothom Alo that Jamilur Reza Chowdhury was sleeping in his Dhanmondi home last night. His wife called him at dawn. He was taken to Square Hospital as there was no response. The doctor declared him dead there. Doctors said he died before they could take him to the hospital.
Jamilur Reza Chowdhury was 6 years old. Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam said that today he would be buried in the Banani cemetery after Janazah after Johar.
Jamilur Reza Chowdhury was the last Vice Chancellor of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP).
Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury is a household name in the engineering world of Bangladesh. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury was a researcher, academic, engineer, and scientist at the same time. He was born in 1943 in Sylhet. Many members of Jamilur Reza Chowdhury’s family, including his father and brother, were engineers. Growing up, he chose this profession as his father and brothers.
Jamilur Reza Chowdhury was involved in almost all of the country’s main physical infrastructure after independence. He was involved in the planning and implementation of the Bangabandhu Bridge. He gave his hand to the great construction site of the Padma Bridge.
Jamilur Reza Chowdhury once received a job call in the United States from another famous Bangladeshi engineer, FR Khan.
Some 60 research articles by Jamilur Reza Chowdhury have been published for his various contributions at home and abroad. He has received many awards and honors in recognition of his work. Among them is the Bangladesh Institute of Engineering Gold Medal, the only honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Manchester in England.
Jamilur Reza Chowdhury was a professor at BUET. He was also appointed advisor to the provisional government in 1996. The vice-rector was at BRAC University.
In addition, he has been chairman of the Earthquake Society, Bangladesh Environmental Movement (BAPA) and Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee for a long time.
