The Awami League candidate, Alhaj Anwar Hossain Helal, has been elected Member of Parliament in the by-elections of the Naogaon-6 (Atrai-Raninagar) constituency.
Mahmud Hasan, a returning officer to Naogaon district, announced the results after counting the votes in 104 polling stations in this constituency for the first time on Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.
According to the results, the Awami League nominated ship symbol candidate Anwar Hossain Helal obtained 1 lakh 5,521 votes. His closest rival, Alhaj Sheikh Rezaul Islam Reju, the BNP nominee for the main rice symbol, got 4,705 votes and Khandaker Intekhab Alam Rubel, the candidate for the mango symbol of the National People’s Party, got 1,818 votes.
There were a total of 104 polling stations in 2 upazilas. Of these, 49 are in Raninagar upazila and 55 are in Atrai upazila. The total number of booths in these centers is 721. The total number of voters is 3 lakh 6 thousand 625 people. Of these, 1 lakh 53 thousand 758 are male voters and 1 lakh 52 thousand 97 are female voters. The number of voters based on upazila is 1 lakh 56,138 in Atrai upazila and 1 lakh 49,57 in Raninagar upazila.
Law enforcement agencies took all necessary steps to ensure that Saturday’s by-elections were free, fair and peaceful. Security is also guaranteed on four levels. The law and order situation in the two upazilas was peaceful in the Naogaon-6 constituency by-election, but no adverse incidents were reported anywhere. On election day, about 1,000 police officers were on duty in 16 unions in the two upazilas. Each union had a total of 16 executive magistrates. Apart from this, 7 BGB parties and 8 RAB parties performed their functions on the voting day.
