Police arrested a man Sunday and rescued the 35-year-old woman, who was taken into custody.
Detainee Abdur Rahim (26) is a resident of Haridhan Bari in the village of Begumganj upazila in East Eklashpur. Preparations are under way to present a case in this regard.
According to the police and locals, a woman stayed at her father’s house for several months due to a marriage dispute in Eklashpur Union District 9 in Begumganj. On this occasion, some people, including the local youth Abdur Rahim, made fun of him in various ways and made indecent offers. Since they did not agree, they entered the house on the night of September 2, stripped the woman and tortured her.
A video that went viral on social media on Sunday showed the woman entering the home and being beaten by 3-4 young men. One of them pressed his feet to the woman’s face. No one has stopped torturing despite repeated pleas.
On Sunday afternoon, he went to the woman’s home in Eklashpur village, Jayakrishnapur, and could not find her.
The locals, who did not want to be identified, said he had left the home after the incident out of fear of the youth.
The victim’s father told reporters that those involved in the incident did not dare to open their mouths against them for fear of being influential. He wants a fair trial.
Noakhali Police Superintendent Alamgir Hossain said police raided the scene and arrested a man involved in torture after a video of the incident was released on social media. Attempts are also being made to stop other people.
The victim has been rescued after a lengthy search and preparations are under way to file a case in this regard, he said.
