Myanmar’s ‘army outpost’ on the border, BGB patrol intensified

The Rohingya have expressed concern about the expansion of Myanmar's military outposts along the Tambru border. The BGBO has stepped up patrols.

Myanmar has suddenly deployed heavy weapons and additional troops across the Tambru border into Naikhyangchhari upazila from Bandarban in Cox’s Bazar. The army has established temporary outposts by installing new green tents in the vicinity of the border. This provocative behavior in Myanmar has caused panic among thousands of Rohingya and people on the other side of the border.

The information was obtained from speaking with several government officials who were monitoring the border on Monday.

Authorities say the matter has been reported to the department in question. Meanwhile, suspicious movements of Myanmar troops were noted at the border last Sunday. In such a situation, Myanmar’s ambassador to Dhaka, Aung Kyu Wei, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

When asked, the Commander of Cox’s Bazar-34 BGB, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, said: ‘We have intensified our patrol activities. And I’ve kept everyone at the border on alert. Any incident with any new intrusion in this regard will be strictly avoided. I have learned that there is a presence of troops in your area with suspicious movements.

Border guards said the Myanmar military had been seen setting up checkpoints along the border. Especially in the Tambru to Lebuchhari area on the border for a few days, there are scenes of various activities of members of the Myanmar army every day. Our suspicion is that members of the Myanmar military are stationed there in their BGP (Border Guard Police) uniforms. They are pitching 6-7 tents and setting up new temporary outposts, which weren’t there before. Previously, there were several incidents of increased army patrols on the border.

A leader from the Rohingya camp, who lives on the zero line, said: “Traffic has increased at the Tambru border for two days. It could not be determined whether the police or the army came and went. However, the people of the Rohingya camp are afraid of this.

According to sources, the number of members of the Myanmar army has increased on the Naikhyangchhari border. They have stored heavy weapons there. The activities of the Myanmar army are also being noticed from across the border. The Arakan Separatist Army, the Rakhine Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) armed group and two soldiers in the custody of the Arakan rebel forces fighting the Myanmar Army in Rakhine, including the October 8 elections in Myanmar, they have confessed to the Rohingya genocide. However, it was not possible to verify this information impartially.

Nur Ahmed, President of St. Martin’s Union Parishad, said: Large ships can be seen in Myanmar waters.

“Elections are scheduled for October in Myanmar,” said a government official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Perhaps they are doing this so there is no chaos around the elections. However, we are keeping a close eye on the border.

Teknaf-2 BGB Captain Lt. Col. Md. Faisal Hassan Khan said: “I have come to know about the army concentration in Myanmar and its suspicious activities. However, the increase in army patrols on the border is not true. We are on alert at the border.

By the way, the genocide started in Rakhine in August 2016, demanding an attack on the checkpoint. At the same time, Myanmar also gathered members of the army in the border area. Thousands of Rohingya were killed in the massacre, rape, arson and more than seven and a half lakhs of Rohingya fled to Bangladesh for their lives. Furthermore, a total of 1.5 million Rohingya refugees are now in Bangladesh. However, the government of Bangladesh is now disturbed by his various misdeeds.
