Paying tribute to the heroic martyred freedom fighters and self-sacrificing Indian soldiers, the Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy, said: “My father participated in the liberation war as a pilot. So I’m very proud. ‘

Doraiswamy spoke as keynote guest at the inaugural performance of the ‘Mrityunjayi Mitra’ sculpture on Chandranath Hill in Sitakunda upazila on Tuesday morning to commemorate the sacrifices of more than 50 Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives to liberate Bangladesh in the great war release.

He said: “Today I am proud of myself, the heroic freedom fighters and Indian soldiers have sacrificed their lives together in this area. Our friendly relationship with Bangladesh is not only historical and cultural, it is a blood relationship.

In mentioning that the Bangladesh-India alliance will last forever, the High Commissioner said: “The father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the inspiration of Bangladesh. The people of this country will not forget their sacrifice for Bangladesh.

‘Mrityunjayi Mitra’ was inaugurated by engineer Mosharraf Hossain, member of the Presidium of the Awami League and president of the Standing Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. Chittagong District Council Chairman MA Salam presided over the function. MP Didarul Alam was the special guest.
