A woman has been identified as a suffocation victim after being raped in the cabin of the MV Parabat-11 motorboat on the Dhaka-Barisal river route. Following the autopsy, the woman’s body was identified and handed over to relatives on Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile, SI Alok Chowdhury of the Barisal Sadar Naval Port Police Station has filed a lawsuit against the unidentified persons.

Investigative officer OC Abdullah-al Mamun said the deceased was identified as Jannatul Ferdous Laboni, 29. His father’s name is Abdul Latif Mia. Laboni, a mother of two, is an electrician. She lived with her parents in the Pallabi-2 area of Dhaka. Her village house is in a broken area. Laboni took the Open University SSC exam. Laboni is the youngest of a brother and three sisters.

The OC also said that Laboni would be coming to Barisal from Sadarghat in Dhaka last Monday for a launch with her estranged boyfriend. His father spoke with Laboni on the phone until 9 pm that day. Her body was recovered from the launch deck the following Monday morning. The woman was strangled to death after being raped.

However, the police could not immediately reveal the identity of the woman, as they took away her scarf and purse along with other evidence. Finally, the police revealed her identity based on her fingerprints. According to him, the police contacted his relatives. His father and brother Moktar Mia identified the woman’s body in the morgue of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Although the defendant was able to identify the killer, the OC expressed its inability to reveal his identity for the sake of the investigation.

Incidentally, the woman’s body was recovered from cabin number 391 of the Parabat-11 motorboat bound for Barisal from Dhaka on Monday. That same day a case was brought against the unidentified persons.
