Comilla Chandina, a 12-year-old madrasa student, was raped by the founder and director of the Maulana madrasa. Yusuf Sohag (40 years old). Locals arrested him at noon on Wednesday (October 14) and handed him over to police for allegedly raping a madrassa.
Maulana Md. Yusuf is the son of Sahidul Islam from Sultanpur village in Debidwar upazila. He is the Imam of the Comilla Palli Bidyut Samiti-1 Jame Mosque in Chandina and the founder and Muhtamim of Darul Ihsan Tahfizul Quran Qawmi Madrasa in Chandina Palli Bidyut Road.
Billal Hossain, the father of the madrasa student, said: “I admitted my daughter to that madrasa on Chandina Palli Bidyut Road in 2019. On October 13 (Tuesday) I learned that the teacher had run away with my daughter. Upon receiving the news, I tried various ways, but failed and informed the human rights activist and leader of the Comilla Norte District Volunteer League, Liton Sarkar. He rescued my daughter along with the teacher on Tuesday night.
According to the madrasa student, a month ago, Yusuf Hazur had sex with me by force. When I asked the tutor about the matter, he threatened me. Later, he would do bad things to me whenever he got the chance. He forced me to take him home to Dhaka on Tuesday.
Comilla Norte District Volunteer League leader Liton Sarkar said the teacher has been married four times so far. Both of his wives are still present. There are many more reports of kidnapping and rape of children by the Qawmi Madrasa establishment. The girl’s house is in my town. When the girl’s father informed me about the matter on Tuesday, I informed Devidwar UNO and OC and rescued the girl. I demand a fair trial for this incident.
Said the Debidwar police chief. Zahirul Anwar said that although the home of the girl and the madrasa teacher was in the area of the Debidwar police station, the incident took place in the area of the Chandina police station. The Chandina police station will take legal action in this regard. Chandina OC Shamsuddin Mohammad Elias Police Station said: “I did not know about the matter.” Now that I know, I have brought the girl along with the madrasa teacher to the police station. I will take legal action knowing the details.
