MP Mumtaz was arrested under the Digital Security Law

A man named Firoz Al Mamun (50) was arrested for insulting and spreading deputy Manikganj-2 Mamtaz Begum on Facebook social media. Police sent the man to court Tuesday afternoon.

Manikganj Harirampur Upazila Parishad Vice President Azim Khan filed a case against the man under the Digital Security Law and was arrested by police on Monday night. The arrested is a resident of the Kalai village of Gala Unión de Firoz Upazila.

According to the case statement, the man named Feroz Al Mamun posted abusive comments about MP Mumtaz on his personal Facebook ID. It said: ‘Mumtaz Azane is upset! Song or duty? What the devil is a member of Parliament?

As the post was shared more than once, different people made different comments for and against. When the matter came to the notice of Harirampur Vice President Upazila Parishad, he filed a case under the Digital Security Law at the police station last Saturday.

Harirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mueed Chowdhury said: “Defendant Feroz Al Mamun was also abusing MP Mamtaz Begum on his own Facebook ID.” He was arrested under the Digital Security Law and sent to the Manikganj court.
