Mourning in Bangladesh over Pranab Mukherjee’s death on Wednesday

Dhaka: On Wednesday (September 2) state mourning was declared in Bangladesh for the death of Pranab Mukherjee, a true friend of Bangladesh and the first Bengali president of India.

Chief Information Officer (PIO) Surath Kumar Sarkar told banglanews on Monday (Aug 31) evening.

He said the government had declared a day of state mourning on Wednesday, September 2, paying tribute to the death of former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. The national flag will remain low in all the country’s institutions on Wednesday.

Pranab Mukherjee, the thirteenth president of India, breathed his last on Monday (August 31) at around 6.15pm. He was 74 years old.

Before becoming the country’s president in 2012, Pranab Mukherjee served as finance minister on several occasions. He has been Finance Minister to various governments since 1980. Loyal and exceptionally wise, this Bengali is respected throughout India. In August last year, he received India’s highest civil honor, the Bharat Ratna.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her deep sorrow over the death of Pranab Mukherjee, a former president of India, a prominent politician from the subcontinent and a true friend of Bangladesh.

On Monday (August 31), the prime minister’s press wing reported that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was deeply saddened by the death of Pranab Mukherjee.

In his message of condolence, Sheikh Hasina said that Pranab Mukherjee’s unique contribution as a politician and our best friend in the great liberation war of Bangladesh will never be forgotten. I always respectfully remember your outstanding contribution to the liberation war.

The Prime Minister further said that Pranab Mukherjee has always supported us during his exile in India following the murder of the nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975. He would take care of my family during such difficult times and would come. to support my younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, and us in case of any need. Even after returning to the country, Pranab Mukherjee has provided support and encouragement. He is our guardian and friend of the family. It has given value in any crisis.

Sheikh Hasina said that in the death of Pranab Mukherjee, India lost a wise and patriotic leader and Bangladesh lost a loved one. It will survive as a shining star in the politics of the subcontinent.

The Prime Minister wished his deceased soul peace and expressed his deepest condolences to the members of his grieving family.
