Students have recently blocked the road in Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar demanding justice for the perpetrators of ongoing rape and sexual harassment in the country.
A group of students blocked the road from 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. As a result, traffic has been stopped in all directions through Motijheel Shapla Chattar.
Motijheel Police Station OC Monir Hossain Mollah said that hundreds of students from Motijheel Ideal College and Motijheel Boys College had blocked the road demanding justice for rapists. They are protesting under the banner of the ‘movement against rape’.
These students protest with slogans like ‘There is no place for rapists in my golden Bengal’, ‘The students have awakened’, ‘We have to fight together against rapists’, ‘There is no place for rapists in Pritilata Bengal’.
Recently, a storm of protests has broken out in different districts of the country, including MC College in Sylhet and Begumganj in Noakhali. Students, the general public, various political and socio-cultural organizations in the country have risen against him. There are also intense protests on social media. There is strong demand from the general public for the death penalty for rape. The ruling Awami League, opposition BNP, and various political parties have also expressed support for the popular demand.
The Secretary General of the Awami League and the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, also supported the demand for the death penalty for rape. In an Oct. 8 show, he said, they don’t benefit from small penalties. The claim of the Supreme Court that has been raised, I think it is not far-fetched. All political and social organizations must present themselves with an uncompromising attitude against these criminals.
Faced with this situation, the government has decided to impose the maximum death penalty for the crime of rape.
