The incident took place in the Hitchmi area of the Bogra-Joypurhat highway on Tuesday morning, police said, citing family members.
The deceased was identified as a 50-year-old resident of the Jahanpur village in Dhamairhat upazila of Naogaon.
Referring to family members, Joypurhat Sadar Police Station OC Shahriar Khan said the man, who had been ill for a long time, met his wife in Dhaka and boarded the bus home Monday night .
“He died on the way to the bus. Suspecting that he had died of coronavirus, other passengers on the bus removed the body of the man and his mother from the bus.”
The OC said that after receiving the news, Joypurhat officer Sadar Upazila Nirbahi, Milton Chandra Roy, and other health workers went there. Samples have been collected from the deceased.
Joypurhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi officer Milton Chandra Roy said members of the deceased’s family had brought the body to his village for burial.
Previously, another similar incident took place in Shibganj upazila de Bogra. On the same day, a patient suffering from fever, shortness of breath and cough was taken from Dhaka to Rangpur.
Later, the man was diagnosed with coronavirus and returned to his home from the Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra.
