Police arrested Shariful Islam Sentu, 39, a school teacher in Manikganj, accused of raping a housewife. When he was taken to court Thursday afternoon, the judge sent him to jail.

There are 5 cases against Sentu that include attempted rape, extortion and murder of two schoolgirls. A schoolgirl recently committed suicide accusing him of attempted rape.

Shariful Islam Sentu is the son of the late Moin Uddin from Daulatpur Upazila Sadar in Manikganj and a social science teacher at the Daulatpur PS government high school.

She was suspended for a women’s scandal. Besides teaching, he is the leader of Upazila BNP.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Sadar Police Station, Akbar Ali Khan, said the victim lived with her husband and children in a rented house in the Manikganj bus stop area. Shariful Islam Sentu went to the house on Wednesday afternoon in search of the housewife’s husband. At that moment, her ten-year-old son opened the door.

The housewife prayed and sent her son to the store to get cigarettes and ice cream. After prayers, he locked the door of the house and raped the housewife. After a while, when the boy returned home, Sentu opened the door and ran away.

The husband of the housewife filed a lawsuit against Sentu at Manikganj Sadar Police Station.

Police arrested Sentu from the Giland area in Sadar upazila on Thursday morning. When he was later brought to court, the judge denied him bail and sent him to jail.

The CO also said that the victim’s medical examination was completed at the Sadar District Hospital.

Meanwhile, last year a case was brought against Shariful Islam at the Daulatpur Police Station for attempting to rape a schoolgirl. Sentu is out on bail in the case. However, local sources said that the school girl committed suicide a week ago.

Another schoolgirl has been accused of indecency against Shariful Islam Sentu. Apart from two cases under the Special Powers Act, there are extortion and fighting cases against the BNP-affiliated teacher.
