After one day, the importation of onions through the land port of Satkhira in Bhomra has stopped again. According to the conditions of the Indian Ministry of Commerce, 721 metric tons (31 trucks) of onions entered the land port of Bhomra via Ghojadanga in India on Saturday after 5 days.

Thirty-one trucks carrying onions, whose documents were fully prepared, entered the country through the port of Bhomra on Saturday.

Mostafizur Rahman Nasim, general secretary of the Bhomra Land Port C&F Agents Association, said that the Indian Ministry of Commerce had banned onion exports to Bangladesh without notice on Monday (September 14).

Subject to the conditions, 31 truckloads of onions with full documentation entered the port of Bhomra on Saturday. However, most of the onions in the truck were damaged due to being stuck for 5 days. As a result, traders have suffered losses.

He added that more than 200 onion trucks are still stuck in the Indian port of Ghojadanga. Traders are unloading some onions and selling them locally.

Maksud Khan, treasurer of the Bhomra C&F Brokers Association, said India would no longer export onions until its internal sanctions were lifted.

Bhosra Land Port Revenue Officer Mohsin Hossain said 621 metric tons (31 trucks) of onions had been imported from India as of Saturday night. But today (Sunday) no truck of onions entered.

The Ghojadanga customs office in India said nothing in writing.
