There has been a massive clash between two villagers over the construction of a dam at Baniachang in Habiganj. More than 50 people, including the president of the local Parishad Union (UP), were injured in the clashes that lasted hours.
The confrontation took place between Kamalkhani and the Majlishpur villagers of upazila on Friday (December 18) from 8 am to 1 pm. Upon receiving the news, the police went to the scene and fired at least 20 rounds of rubber bullets and tear gas projectiles. Among the injured, 18 have been admitted to different hospitals.
According to police and locals, residents of Kamalkhani village had built a dam in a panchayat body of water called Kanibhanga. On Friday, people from the nearby village of Majlishpur broke the dam. When asked about the matter, the people of Majlishpur could not give a good answer. Then the opponent expelled them from the area.
The people of Majlishpur then announced Mike and urged their people to go to the dam area with native weapons. Upon receiving the news, the people of Kamalkhani village also called Mike to their people.
Extreme tensions erupted when both parties arrived at the scene with indigenous weapons. At one point, people from both sides pounced on each other and the clash began. There were various attacks and counterattacks.
Upon receiving the news, Upazila Nirbahi (UN) Officer Masud Rana, Additional Superintendent of Police (Baniachang Circle) Sheikh Mohammad. Selim ran to the scene with representatives of the local people and a large number of policemen. His long-term efforts controlled the conflict.
Police fired at least 20 rounds of rubber bullets and tear gas. The local UP president, Gias Uddin Ahmed, went to control the incident.
Among the injured, a young man named Nazir Mia (25) from Majlishpur village was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The injured have been identified as Abidur, Lal Mia, Mansur, Oli Hossain, Jamir, Apu Sarkar, Nipu, Sajid, Nurul Amin, Sajlu, Fazlu, Jilu, Nazmul, Harun, Jasim and Ansar Miah.

UNO Masud Rana said that the upazila administration, including the police and representatives of the people, went to the scene and calmed both parties. The situation is under the control of the administration.
