More than 30,000 government websites (.gov.bd) cannot be accessed due to a power failure on the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) server.
The problem has arisen since the inverter from the power connection to the BTCL server started burning on Sunday (December 6) morning. The information came from speaking with officials from the government project Aspire to Innovate (A2I) and BTCL.
Since the disconnection of power to the BTCL servers in Moghbazar, the websites of various ministries, departments and offices, directorates, agencies and government offices at the field level have not been accessed. Since this morning, the websites of the Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education, Department of Local Government have not been accessed. The websites of any department and organization, including the Department of Food, the Department of Disaster Management, the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, are not accessed.
Atui monitors the website of the government office. Arte Elahi, technical director at A2I, told Jago News on Sunday evening: “The power supply to BTCL was cut off around 10am today. Where we have servers. We cannot run the server without power. There is no problem. with the portal or the server. There was also a problem early last night, it was fixed. But in the morning there was another problem in the second phase.
He said: ‘Basically the BTCL investor is on fire. Large investors are not immediately available, small investors have been arranged. Connection work in progress. When the power comes, we hope to be able to power up a part of the server in no time. When powered on, the system can be rebooted and ready in a few hours. Then one website after another will start to be visible. ‘
He will work there all night. Our team (A2I) will also be there with BTCL.
He said: ‘Because of this, more than 30,000 government websites have been down, the sites are not accessible. The total number of ministry and department websites is approximately 42,000. Our maximum websites are now on the BTCL servers. The rest are in the National Data Center.
The chief official further said: “We are trying to get the sites up and running tomorrow by working through the night when the electrical connection is fully operational. Our entire team has been deployed there.
He said: “We consider 72 major websites from various ministries and departments, including the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Division and the Ministry of Public Administration, to be a bit sensitive.” Some of these sites are closed.
Mir Mohammad Morshed, general manager (public relations and publications) of BTCL, told Jago News: “The websites could not be seen because the power supply was cut off.” He also stated that the electrical connection has been reactivated.
