The lowest temperature in the country was recorded in Rajarhat in Kurigram on Saturday at 6.8 degrees Celsius.

However, the minimum temperature in Dhaka was twice that of 13.5 degrees Celsius.

The first cold snap of the current season started from Friday. The temperature dropped to 9 degrees in Tentulia that day.

Senior meteorologist Bazlur Rashid told bdnews24.com on Saturday that mild to moderate cold prevailed in the Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions and in Tangail, Faridpur, Srimangal, Jessore, Kushtia and Barisal.

He said: “That weather will prevail for a couple of days. The minimum temperature may no longer drop. After a couple of days, the temperature will continue to rise. “

When the temperature drops by 8 to 10 degrees Celsius over a large area, meteorologists call it a gentle breeze. When the mercury in the thermometer drops from 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, it is considered to be experiencing episodes of intense cold when the average and minimum temperatures are between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Mymensingh ranges between 8 and 9 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Bazlur said: “There is no fear of an intense cold wave. However, another cold snap may occur this month.

“After December 25 and 26, the temperature may drop again. At this time, the second phase of the current season may be cold in different parts of the country.”

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours says light to moderate fog is likely across the country from last night into the morning.

The cold snap in the Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions and in the Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Srimangal, Jessore, Kushtia, Barisal and Bhola areas may continue.

Nighttime temperatures can drop slightly in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions. There is an indication of a reduction in daytime temperature.
