Ayesha Siddique Minni’s father has received a full copy of the verdict in the much disputed Rifat Sharif murder case in Barguna. He received a 429-page copy of the verdict on Saturday (October 3) at 7 p.m.
After receiving a copy of the verdict, Minni’s father, Mozammel Hossain Kishore, went to Dhaka to appeal to the high court.
Minni’s father, Mozammel Hossain Kishore, will go to the courtroom of the Supreme Court attorney, attorney ZI Khan Panna, on Sunday morning (October 4) with a copy of the verdict. However, when Minni’s father was contacted about this, it was found that his mobile phone number was blocked.
Defender Mahbubul Bari Aslam, Minni’s lawyer in charge of the Barguna court, said Minni’s father received a copy of the verdict around 7.45pm on Saturday. After receiving the copy, he left Barguna for Dhaka. Due to lack of time, I could not read what the court mentioned in the verdict. However, Minni’s father told me that he would appeal to the superior court on Sunday.
The court ordered the execution of six people, including Rifat’s wife, Ayesha Siddique Minni, in the murder case. The verdict in the case was announced on Wednesday (September 30) around 2:15 pm by Barguna Session and District Judge Md. Ashaduzzaman.
Those sentenced to death are- Md. Rakibul Hasan alias Rifat Faraji (23), Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon (21), Mohaiminul Islam Sifat (19), Rezoan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktak Hridoy (22), Md. Hasan (19) and Ayesha Siddique Minni (19). The court fined each of those convicted in the same case 50,000 taka.
On June 26, 2019, Rifat Sharif, 25, was shot and killed in front of a crowd of hundreds in front of Barguna Government College. Later, a video of Rifat being hacked to death went viral on Facebook.
The next day, Rifat’s father, Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif, filed a murder case against five or six other unidentified people, naming 12 others. On September 1 of that year, the police filed an investigation report in the tried against 24 people, divided into adults and minors. Charged 10 adults and 14 minors.
On January 1, the Barguna District and Session Court of Judges filed charges against 10 adult defendants in the Rifat murder case. The court then began taking testimony against 10 accused adults as of January 8. A total of 8 witnesses testified in the case.
After hearing the arguments of the two parties in the case on September 18, Barguna District and Sessions Judge Md. Asaduzzaman set Wednesday (September 30) for the verdict.
