Six convicts sentenced to death in the highly disputed murder case of Rifat Sharif in Barguna have been held in the condom cell of the Barguna District Jail. However, all six defendants, including Minni, have mental disorders. In accordance with prison rules, they were given plates, bowls, blankets, and two sets of clothes. In addition, once a week they can speak with relatives on the phone for a specified period of time. As such, Minni spoke to her parents on the phone for five minutes this morning.

Minni’s father, Mozammel Hossain Kishore, told NTV Online about this: ‘My mother and I spoke to Minni in the morning. My daughter is devastated. We will appeal the verdict in Superior Court.

Barguna Prison Superintendent Anwar Hossain said that Minni was the only defendant in the condom cell among the prisoners in Barguna Prison. They have kept her in the condom cell of the women’s ward. Additionally, five other male convicts who were sentenced to death in the Rifat murder case have also been kept in condom cells. Apart from these five male inmates, there are no other male inmates in the condom cell at Barguna prison, the prison superintendent said.

The jail superintendent said: “According to jail rules, all six inmates have been given plates, bowls and blankets in the condom cell. In addition, the jail has issued two sets of clothing to each defendant. They will wear this dress. And they are given the food that the usual defendants eat.

When asked if there were plans to transfer the six convicts, including Minni, to another jail in the country, the superintendent of the jail, Anwar Hossain, said: “We will discuss the matter with the higher authorities and take action on their instructions. At present, the necessary steps are being taken to allow the accused to appeal to the higher court.

Those sentenced to death in the Rifat Sharif murder case are Rakibul Hasan Rifat alias Rifat Faraji (23), Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon (21), Mohaiminul Islam Sifat (19), Md. Heart of Rezwan Ali Khan, also known as the heart of Tiktak (22), Md. Hasan (19) and Ayesha Siddique Minni (19). On the other hand, Md. Musa (22), Rafiul Islam Rabbi (20), Md. Sagar (19) and Kamrul Hasan Simon (21). Among the defendants, Ayesha Siddique Minni was released on High Court bail. Said the defendant. Musa has been on the run since the murder.

Rifat Sharif was brutally beaten to death in front of the Barguna Government College on June 26 last year.
