A member of the army was seriously injured in an armed attack on an army patrol in Naniyarchar, Rangamati. In this incident, the army retaliated against the criminals. Two of the attackers died.
Rangamati Police Superintendent Alamgir Kabir confirmed the matter at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
According to police sources, the wounded member of the army Shahabuddin was first transferred to the Combined Military Hospital of Rangamati (CMH). From there he was flown to Chittagong CMH.
The two dead are believed to be members of the UPDF, a regional party in the hills. An AK-22 weapon was recovered from the scene.
According to police sources, 20 members of the Bir Army from the Rangamati Sadar area went to raid a terrorist hideout in Rauf Tila in the Sabekshyang Union of Naniyarchar Upazila around 4:30 pm on Tuesday. At this point, the terrorists ambushed another position and opened fire on the army patrol. Private Shahabuddin (28) was shot in his attack. Two of the attackers were killed when the army returned fire.
Police Superintendent Alamgir Kabir said: “There was an armed attack on an army patrol team. We later learned that a member of the army was injured and two terrorists were killed. The police went to the scene. The two dead were said to be supporters of the United Democratic Front (UPDF), but the matter has yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Angya Marma, president of the youth forum of the central committee of the United Democratic Front (UPDF), said: “We are not aware of any such incident.” However, whenever there is an incident on the mountain, we get involved and the reason is given. It could be such an incident.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a patrol team from the Rangamati Army Zone conducted an operation in the Burighat area adjacent to Naniyarchar in Rangamati around 5 p.m. Tuesday (October 13) to arrest the armed extortionists of the UPDF (Grupo Prasit). At that moment, the UPDF extortionists became aware of the presence of an army patrol and began firing from a nearby helm. Members of the army patrol responded at one point. Two armed UPDF extortionists were killed instantly in these shootings. A member of the army patrol, Shahabuddin, was shot in the left shoulder by the terrorists. Later, members of the army searched the scene and recovered an AK-22 SMG used by the terrorists along with ammunition.
