Police officer Abdul Qayyum (32) was not spared even after proposing a new marriage on the condition of a Tk 20 lakh dowry to get rid of the rape case. After being caught in an abusive situation with a young woman and brought to the police station, the young woman filed a rape case with the Nandail police station in Mymensingh on Friday. The policeman has been arrested.
According to local sources, 32-year-old Abdul Qayyum, a former police officer from the Nandail Police Station, was captured by locals along with a young woman at Abdul Mannash’s home in Charbetagair union’s Char Uttarband village in Nandail upazila on Thursday noon. He currently works as a bailiff at the Lepsia Police Post of the Khaliajuri Police Station in Netrokona.

The Nandail police rescued them and took them to the police station. The police officer arrested at the police station claimed that the girl was his second wife. The Nandail OC Mizanur Rahman Akand Police Station, while acknowledging the veracity of the case file, said the rape victim would be sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a medical examination on Saturday. The accused police officer has been arrested. It will be sent to court on Saturday.
