Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, and her daughter have been put back under house arrest, despite being released on October 13, 14 months after being placed under house arrest during the revocation of the Kashmir special status last year.

Mehbooba Mufti, the chief prime minister of the Indian-administered Kashmir Valley and leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), tweeted on Friday that Indian authorities had placed her and her daughter under house arrest.

In a tweet on Friday morning, Mehbooba wrote: ‘I have been illegally detained again. For the past two days, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has not allowed Waheed to visit his family in Pulwama. BJP ministers and their supporters can freely roam Kashmir. Just for my safety.

He further writes: “There is no limit to their cruelty. Wahid has been arrested on unsubstantiated charges. I have no right to express sympathy for your family. Even my daughter Iltiza has been placed under house arrest. My daughter Iltiza has also been placed under house arrest for wanting to meet the Waheed family.

By repealing article 370 of the Indian Constitution, the BJP central government last year stripped Kashmir of its special constitutional status, divided the valley in two and included it in the Union Territory.

Many politicians, including PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah, and People’s Conference Sajjad Lone, were arrested in the mass arrests that followed.
