Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen has said that boosting economic relations will be a priority at the Foreign Secretary-level meeting between Bangladesh and India.
The foreign secretary left for Delhi on Thursday to attend a meeting on Friday (January 29).
Masood bin Momen said: “Various issues will be discussed as a priority for the economic prosperity of the two countries. We will discuss trade, connectivity, cooperation in the energy sector, the rapid implementation of the LOC project and other topics.
When asked what else could be discussed, he told the Bengali Tribune: “You can also discuss whether you can do something new in information technology.”
Masood bin Momen said: “Last September, the foreign ministers of the two countries and in December, the two prime ministers agreed on many issues. How those themes can be implemented in the coming days is the topic of discussion at Friday’s meeting.
The two sides will also discuss what will be resolved during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka on March 26 and which ministries are stalled in the two countries, the foreign secretary said.
“We will make our offer and if the indigenous people accept it, the matter will be resolved quickly,” he said.
He said there is the possibility of holding joint ceremonies in some countries, such as Delhi, London and New York, on the occasion of the Mujib year and the 50th anniversary of independence.
The foreign secretary said the two sides could discuss whether the launch of ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ on the Kushtia border, the installation of a memorial cemetery for the Indian soldiers killed in Ashuganj in 1971 and the launch of a passenger train on the Chilahati-Haldibari route it could be completed. by March.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary (east) Mashafi Binte Shams and CVP Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sanjay Bhattacharya, spoke about consular services in Delhi.
The two sides agreed to quickly report any arrests or detention to another country, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release Thursday. The two parties also agreed to speed up the resolution of consular access, the exchange of convicts and visas.
Please note that the first consular dialogue between Bangladesh and India was held in 2016.
