Medical students want an automatic pass this time

MBBS medical students have been in uncertainty for the past five months due to the coronavirus epidemic. They were scheduled to have their professional or final exams last May.

But so far the first, second and third level professional exams have not been taken, so they are afraid of getting stuck in a long session.

Students also think that this will lead to an internship crisis at some point.

It has also been alleged that those who study in private medical schools have to pay monthly salaries and shelter fees.

Meanwhile, the students were informed that this professional exam could take place in December, but they did not agree to participate in the exam during the epidemic.

They have demanded promotion by evaluating alternative forms. Medical student Namrata Moumita said that this final medical exam is done at the hospital.

Many students have to get up and take the exam. He fears this could lead to a coronavirus infection in students.

He said: “There are so many students in the hallway. They sit in the same room, use 7/8 people, use the same bathroom, eat in the same dining room. Also, how many people travel to the hospital. Hygiene rules cannot be followed here. The coronavirus will spread widely among us. We don’t want that. “

In medicine, almost every day ‘articles’ are tested on a specific topic, after passing many articles, ‘cards’ are tested on them.

The “term” test is taken by matching a few cards. If someone scores less than 70 percent on these tests, they have to retake the test. The students were preparing for the professional exam by following these steps.

Now they want to give them an automatic promotion by evaluating the previous exams. Otherwise, they are also concerned that there could be an inter crisis at some point if the session gets stuck.

But since human health is involved with MBBS, Nazrul Islam, a former vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, thinks that promotion based solely on no-test assessment can be risky.

“MBBS or medicine is the study of human health. Each step of these degrees is very important because each step teaches something new that is later useful in real life. Now, if someone gets a doctor’s license without exam and if they lack knowledge, your patients will suffer for it. “

Although a professional exam has been scheduled for May, a decision has yet to be made. Although the government has granted automotive promotions to students at other levels, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the BMDC or the university authorities have not yet made a formal decision on medical students.

In such a situation, the students demanded to start next year’s class quickly with automatic promotion without taking a professional test on coronavirus.

In this regard, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council – BMDC President. Shahidullah said they would not make any decisions that could threaten the health sector.

“Professional medical examinations are not HSC, JDC exams. This education deals with people’s lives. That knowledge is verified through global examinations. The decision to evaluate alternatives without exams is not acceptable,” he said. We don’t want to create doctors who do more harm than good to the patient. “

Experts have also given their opinion in favor of the medical examination. However, he urged authorities to ensure all possible hygiene measures to allay students’ fears of the coronavirus.
