Mass rape in MC College dorm: BCL Mahfuz activist arrested

Police arrested Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, the seventh defendant in the case of gang-raping his wife while keeping her husband in the dormitory of MC College in Sylhet.

The District Detective Division (DB) and Kanaighat Police arrested Mahfuz at a relative’s home in the Haripur area of ​​Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet on Monday night.

Under the direction of District Police Superintendent Mohammad Farid Uddin, Detective Division (DB North) OC Saiful Alam and Kanaighat Police Station OC Mohammad Shamsuddohar arrested Mahfuzur Rahman Masum from the Haripur Police Station in Jaintapur.

Sylhet Police Superintendent Mohammad Farid Uddin confirmed the information to Jago News at 1pm and said the detained defendant, Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, would be handed over to the metropolitan police on Tuesday morning.

Sylhet Range police and the RAB-9 arrested seven people, including five defendants in the case. Despite the Shahparan (Rah.) Police Station case, SMP police have not been able to arrest a single defendant so far.

Last Friday, a housewife was gang-raped while walking with her husband at MC College. Around 8:30 pm, BCL leaders and activists forcibly took away her husband’s housewife and gang-raped her in the bedroom. At that time, two people detained her husband in front of the university.

The victim’s husband has filed a case at the Shahparan Police Station. Three other unidentified leaders and activists of the Chhatra League were charged in the case. The accused BCL activists are supporters of Ranjit Sarkar, former secretary for sports and youth affairs of the Awami League of Sylhet district.

The victim testified before Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate, Third Court Magistrate Sharmin Khanam Nilar, on Sunday afternoon. At this time he gave a detailed description of the incident. The court recorded the statement of the housewife and gave it to the family.

Among those arrested, Saifur Rahman, the main defendant in the case, Arjun Laskar, the fourth defendant, and Rabiul Hasan, the president of the Muktijuddha Mancha MC College branch, were presented in court on Monday and held in pre-trial detention for five days.
