The Argentine government is taking several initiatives in honor of the legendary soccer player Diego Maradona who brought the World Cup to Argentina.
This time around, another elegant initiative has been taken to make Maradona memorable in Argentine history.
The government is thinking of releasing notes bearing the image of Maradona.
On December 6, Norma Durango, an Argentine senator, suggested that the government could print Maradona’s photo on Argentina’s highest 1,000-peso bill if it wanted.
Argentina, along with other senators, has already supported the proposal.
Maradona’s supporters have urged the government to take action soon.
“Diego Maradona is our national asset,” said Senator Durango. The legal aspects of using his image on thousand-peso bills are currently being analyzed. Hopefully, a final decision will be made early next year.
It should be noted that currently the photograph of the country’s national bird Rufus Hornero is printed on the 1,000 Argentine banknote.
If Durango’s proposal is implemented, there will be a photo of Maradona on one side of the bill, excluding the photo of the bird. On the other hand, there will be an image of Diego’s goal when cutting six in the 198 World Cup.
By the way, Maradona did not return home on November 25 after suffering cardiac arrest at his residence.
