A case has been brought against 37 people, including Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque, Deputy Secretary General of Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, for killing the former emir of Hifazat-e-Islam, Allama Ahmad Shafi. Maulana Mamunul Haque, the organization’s deputy general secretary, warned of taking legal action against the case as a conspiracy.
Ahmed Shafi’s brother-in-law, Maulana Mainuddin, filed the case as a plaintiff. The plaintiff’s lawyer, lawyer Mohammad Abu Hanif, confirmed the matter and said that the court had learned of the case and ordered the Police Investigation Office (PBI) to investigate.
Mamunul Haque said in a video message about the case: ‘I was surprised to learn that a murder case has been filed. A case has been filed on behalf of 36 people there, my name has been mentioned there. But in all the circumstances before Allama Ahmad Shafi’s death, I was not close to him. Why they did this, their true purpose becomes clear by including my name there. In fact, they want to defeat us. After his death (of Allama Shafi), the devout Muslims of this country will not tolerate this game of their interests centered on him. ‘
“I have been defamed,” he said. In this regard, I will discuss with the attorneys and take legal action in consultation with other decision-makers and ulama kerams.
In the case it is alleged that Mamunul Haque held a meeting in Fatikchhari on October 11 to assassinate Allama Ahmad Shafi. Then, on October 16, Allama Shafi was tortured at Hathazari Madrasa. It is alleged that the ambulance was stopped while Ahmed Shafi was being taken from the madrassa for treatment and his death was hastened.
Amir Allama Ahmad Shafi of Hifazat-e-Islam died on October 18 while undergoing treatment in Dhaka.
