Maulana Mamunul Haque, a prominent religious speaker and deputy general secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, appeared at a meeting in Comilla about ‘Bina Dawaat’. There he spoke for some time. The incident occurred on December 15 in Chandina, Comilla.
The Chandina police have filed a lawsuit against six members of the organizing committee, including Mamunul, for participating in a mahfil without the permission of the administration and making provocative comments. The case was registered at the Chandina de Comilla police station on December 16.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Chandina Police Station, Shamsuddin Elias, said the case was filed without permission from the administration and that the collection was done with concealment of information. The matter has been kept secret on instructions from the higher authorities.
Mamunul Haque addresses a mahfil in Chandina
Misbahur Rahman Chowdhury revealed the details of the case at a recent press conference at the National Press Club on various topics, including the subject of sculpture. He said: ‘On December 15, I was invited as the main guest on the second day of the two-day Islamic Conference in the Joag Paschimpara area of the Chandina police station in Comilla. According to him, I finished my speech and left for Dhaka around 11pm on the same day. After arriving in Dhaka, he learned that Maulana Mamunul Haque, the leader of Hifazat, also joined there without any invitation. Even after midnight, Maulana Mamunul addressed the conference.
Meanwhile, the mahfil organizing committee claimed he spoke on the way to a nearby upazila.
Comilla Police Superintendent Syed Nurul Islam said that the administration’s permission was not sought in the mahfil that took place on December 15 in the Joag Paschimpara area of Comilla. Maulana Mamunul Haque arrived there and made several provocative speeches. Police filed a case on December 16.
