Hasan Al Mamun, accused in the rape case of a Dhaka University (DU) student, has granted status by claiming his innocence through social media. He wrote his account statement around 11pm on Wednesday (September 23) after receiving a temporary resignation from the post of convenor of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council.
He claimed that the image of the student rights council of his organization was tarnished and that the student had filed a false, conspiratorial and motivated complaint against him. He has the necessary information and evidence, which he will present in court as needed, Mamun said.
He wrote on Facebook: ‘I am Hassan Al Mamun, three times in a row as captain of the Department of Islamic Studies in my university life, the department has won the honor of being the interdepartmental champion twice under my leadership. I am the captain of the Dhaka University core volleyball team and the Muhsin Hall volleyball and soccer team. I was a regular player on the Dhaka University football team. I am also a member of the Netrokona district football team. I have met many people due to my association with many organizations on this long journey. No one has been able to press charges against me in my college life, regardless of my opinion.
In addition, he wrote: “Those who have seen me during my long 8 years of university life and two and a half years as a convener of the organization can know what kind of boy I am. The whistleblower has tarnished my image, that of my family and the organization with false, conspiratorial and motivated cases.
On September 21 and 22, a Dhaka University student filed two complaints against Hasan Al Mamun, the organizer of the Student Rights Council, and six other leaders and activists at the Lalbagh and Kotwali police stations.
Then, on Wednesday night, the Student Rights Council formed a three-member investigative committee to investigate the incident. The committee has been directed to report within the next 48 hours. Since Hassan al-Mamun is the coordinator of his organization, the organization has also fired him from his temporary position for the sake of an impartial investigation.
