According to local sources, Delwar Hossain began living in the Rashi Laptikandi village of Madbarchar’s union in Madaripur’s Shibchar upazila on land given to him by his father-in-law seven years ago. He has worked as a tailor in different parts of the country, including Savar and Khulna in Dhaka, to lead his family. Delwar died of suffocation seven years ago when his housework was incomplete.
His wife Saleha Begum lost her only source of income in the family. She started sewing at home. The eldest daughter Taslima works at KG School and takes care of the family with her mother. The family continues with the financial support of the daughter-in-law. Financially, she married two daughters at a young age.
Sumaiya Farhana is the youngest of six daughters. Sumaiya’s mother did not have the courage to continue her education in a poor family. However, as Sumaiya had a strong inclination towards education, she continued her education with the help of her sisters. Sumaiya gets a scholarship in Talent Pool with GPA-5 in PEC and JSC exams.
After being admitted to Panchchar Balika High School in the sixth class, the meritorious Sumaiya won the hearts of other teachers, including the school’s principal, with the results of various exams. Knowing the helplessness of Sumaiya’s family, teachers and school authorities also helped her with notebooks, pens and books. No teacher took money to teach him privately. The school authorities also arranged for him to be awarded regular scholarships.
Sumaiya participated in the science department SSC exam this year. Achieved Golden GPA-5 as a test result. Even then, the family was concerned about her education. The orphan Sumaiya, who dreamed of becoming a doctor, had an image of despair in her eyes. She had doubts about admission to a good university, far from being a doctor.
The head of the local parliament, Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury, learned of the state of Sumaiya. On the night of June 9, he contacted the school principal and received his news. The next morning, Chief Whip sent candy to Sumaiya’s house. Sumaiya spoke to the leaders, including her mother, older sister and school teachers, by phone around 12 noon. She wants to know what are the obstacles and requirements for Sumaiya to continue her studies and promises to be by her side to continue her studies. She renovated her house without plaster and installed tiles and doors, and instructed them to provide drinking water in the house.
After renovating the house, Chief Whip went to Sumaiya’s house on Friday (October 2). The arrival of Chief Whip to the home of an indomitable genius from a poor family caused a stir among students, teachers and parents in the area.
