Farzana Nasrin, an assistant professor in the English department at Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), has brought another case against her husband Masud Rana, a judicial magistrate from Nilphamari. Judge TM Musa of the Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children accepted the charge in a Jessore court on Tuesday and set September 29 as the date for the order. Masud Rana and her relative Ziaur Rahman and her wife Rani Khatun from Aftab Nagar village in Pabna have been charged in the case.
Professor Farzana Nasrin mentioned in the indictment that the defendant Masud Rana is a lover of wealth and dowry. After meeting him through his mobile phone, the family got married on February 14 of this year. During the marriage, Masud Rana received goods worth Tk 5 lakh and gold ornaments worth Tk 2 lakh. He hid his previous marriage during the marriage. After some time, Masud Rana, at the persuasion of the other two defendants, demanded a dowry of Tk 10 lakh from him to buy a plot in the eastern part of Dhaka. Masood Rana received 5 lakh rupees as a dowry. Masud Rana began to torture him for the remaining dowry of 5 lakh. At one point, Masud Rana said that he would not accept the dowry if he did not pay it.
On September 17, three people, including Masud Rana, arrived at his father’s house on the Palbari corner of the city of Jessore. At one point in the conversation about the dowry money, the defendant tried to beat Farzana Nasrin to death. Meanwhile, others in the home came over and rescued him and admitted him to the 250-bed General Hospital. You have presented the case in court because you did not accept it.
Previously, teacher Farzana Nasreen filed a dowry case against her husband Masud Rana in Magistrates’ Court on September 14. The court has subpoenaed Masood Rana.
