The cold snap could start soon in the Indian capital Delhi as temperatures continue to drop. Indian meteorologists issued such a warning earlier this week. That fear is going to become reality there.
Last Sunday, the temperature in India’s capital city, Delhi, dropped to almost two degrees Celsius since Saturday. The minimum temperature was 6.9 degrees Celsius, according to the Delhi Meteorological Office.
Sunday was the coldest November day in 17 years. For the past three days, the temperature in Delhi was below 10 degrees Celsius. If it drops to 7.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the fear is further reduced.
The country’s meteorologists fear a cold snap, as it dropped about 2 degrees on Sunday. However, on Monday it rose again to 9 degrees.
Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the country’s Central Meteorological Department, said cold winds were blowing from the western Himalayas towards Kankan. As a result, the temperature in Delhi drops every day. Even if this situation continues for another day or two, the temperature is likely to increase by 2 to 3 degrees in the next four to five days due to the western storm.
Except for November 18, the daily temperature has been 2-3 degrees below normal so far. Delhi’s temperature is dropping due to clear skies and cold winds from the western Himalayas.
In 2016, the minimum temperature in Delhi was 7.6 degrees Celsius. 10.5 degrees Celsius in 2017. In 2019 it was 11.5 degrees Celsius. This time 6.9 degrees Celsius was recorded at the beginning.
